Who we are
A circle, not an audience.
The Rituals — Institut für Kunst, Kultur und Ritual — is a registered Austrian non-profit association (Verein) founded to research, collect, and share the rituals that bring people together. Not in the religious sense. In the oldest sense: the gestures, the gatherings, the practices that create belonging.
We live in the most connected era in history, and loneliness has never been higher. What went missing is not contact — it is ritual: the shared, repeated, meaningful acts through which humans have always turned strangers into a community and time into memory.
So that is our work. We design and hold rituals — around the table, in nature, through art and music, at life’s thresholds — and we study what makes them work, so the knowledge can be shared.
What we do
Three kinds of work.
Gatherings
Shared meals, seasonal celebrations, and multi-day member gatherings where the rituals are lived, not just discussed. Long dinners, real conversation, time to breathe — the table as the oldest technology of connection.
Rites of passage
Non-religious ceremonies for life’s thresholds — welcomes, unions, farewells, new beginnings. Crafted with care, together with artists, musicians, and cultural practitioners, for people who want meaning without dogma.
Research & practice
We collect and study rituals across cultures and translate them into practices for modern life — a growing body of work on how attention, presence, and shared experience actually create connection.
Why it works
Life is made of attention.
Underneath every ritual is a simple understanding: your life is your time, your time is your attention, and what you give your attention to is what your life becomes. Rituals are how we choose — together, deliberately — where the attention goes. We call this understanding our philosophy, and it shapes everything we hold.

The Rituals is carried by its members. Everyone who belongs gives something, learns something, and earns the experience of being part of it — our Earn–Learn–Give principle. Membership keeps the circle alive and makes the work possible.
